I have been contemplating what to write here all day!
ITS OVER! One thousand kilometres!!!!! Wow! I have done some amazing things in my life, have met amazing people from all over the world and been fortunate to grow up with great parents and friends.... the most important thing I can write is my heartfelt thanks to you all. There are so many special people to thank... it would be hard to find time to do that. I hope that every one of you that have been special and specially involved in this EPIC, know who you are and know that I am so very very grateful.
My plan is to try and write, this week, a bit of a blow by blow story. It might be long, but I think what has been done by all is worthy of mention and it might just make great reading!
There were some terrible low moments for me. The guts to keep going came from the support around me and the kids that I was doing it for. It is amazing to think that what we have done is actually and truly going to make a difference to kids and families and could really help the future of our community. For every donation we have received, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. The bottom line is that the money, the shoes and the awareness that have been raised is almost priceless. You should really pat yourself on the back.... my job was for a few days... but the money raised will keep making a difference long after you have forgotten about this weekend. You are the ones that have made the difference!
I’d also like to thank the big fella up stairs and mother nature! OMG, can you imagine how impossible it would have been to complete this if I had to battle into a wind like the one that blew up yesterday! man o man.... Thursday was gorgeous, cold, but gorgeous. Friday and Saturday were also great. No doubt the wind was up... but the rain man stayed away and I think it’s fair to say, everyone enjoyed the great event that was the GRAPE RIDE!
I want to say sorry for the speech I made at the presentation. I was smashed... I left EVRYTHING on the road. I did the last lap in around 3 hours. I was possessed... I wanted to get home. I was tired, exhausted, sleep deprived and sore. I wanted to thank more people and wanted to say much more about Cholmondeley. I trust you'll understand that I was exhausted.
Lastly, I have been fortunate to experience something not many people get to experience. I have seen the warmth and generosity first hand. From my closest friends and family, to complete strangers. I have done over 9000kms since December 29th. I have given everything to ensure that what I said I would do I did..... AND I DID. At the lowest points I remembered the texts and the calls, the comments, the toots, the claps and the signs..... I am in awe of your spirit to get behind this.
WE HAVE MADE ONE HELL OF A DIFFERENCE!
Congratulations! WE DID IT! One thousand kilometres! Totally bloody epic!
My experience will follow this week.
You can still donate!
Love and best wishes..... And THANKS!

1000KM
Its done, not long ago Scotty crossed the line to complete his epic 1000km fundraising ride. He's understandably, pretty shattered, but he made it on schedule.
For those who haven't checked it out, take a look at www.fundraiseonline.co.nz/scottybrown

Last Lap
He's onto the last lap, now less 100km to go, and i'm sure he's counting each one down as he gets closer to getting off the bike for the last time.
The End Is In Sight
Scotty hit the road again at 6 this morning with the final task of a 200km day ahead of him. He has made it to Havelock on lap 1, now with a tail wind to the start finish line and a final lap to complete the 1000km.
The 2lap racers set off early this morning to join the 5 lapers on the course and by 9 this morning everyone was out on the course enjoying the beautiful Graperide.

The Night Shift
Finishing in the very late hours of friday night/early saturday morning Scotty completed his 4 back to back laps of the Graperide course, taking his total KM's cycled to ove 800. With a few hours sleep he'll be back on the bike this morning with 2 more loops to go. Today at least he'll have the company of over 2000 Graperiders to help push him along, and knowing that he has almost done it

Morning Team
Scotty Brown is a F$%#en MACHINE, oh my god!!!!!!!!!
He arrived in picton last nite at what must have been 9.30pm ish, and had done 375km, so he had to turn around and pedal back to Blenheim to make up the 25km he needed for the 400km of day 1. I think I would have cried, i think he almost did, but after a talk from Johny it was all on to make the 400km.
I have got some photos to paste on here but I need Adain to help me do it. Computer and me, no go! Im lucky to not have messed this up! The pics are amazing, thank you Scotty Wilder.
Today they were up at 5am and hit te road at 6.30am for lap one, it looked so cold I have a photo of him from 7am this moring and he is wrapped up like a Mt Everest Climber, hes tired and possibly delerious bacause he is laughing at Johnys bad bad jokes, Scotty is running on 5 hrs sleep, 400km to do today.
If your heading up to the Grape Ride today, the Ultimites ( 5 lappers) start at 2pm form Forest Estate, Scotty will be there after already having done 2 laps! and biking 400km the day befoe! Its making my two laps look very little compared to what hes up to. Any way he loves Chocolate Thins, grab a pack today on your way up, find him on course and hook him up!
I will post more today when I can, I accually spoke to Scotty last nite and he sounded good, happy, and he thanks everyone for the good wishes.
Sorry for the speeling mistakes too, not my strongest point.....

20 hours to go!

It is 8:15am Wednesday morning, this time tomorrow I would have been on my bike for 3 hours or so.
There simply isn't much else to say now..I can't "wow" you with a new epic ride, tell you about an "animal" moment or even beg you a little more to donate to the kids.
Do me a solid though please, think really positive thoughts... My tooth is blimmin sore, iI have the beginnings of a cold and I need to pull from your strength! While you are sitting back and relaxing... think of my sorry little butt and legs.. go on...please! :)
THANK YOU everyone! sincerely!
I leave at between 5-5:30am tomorrow from Cholmondeley children's home in Governors Bay. Ride the hills through to Sumner and should be there around 6-6:15am. I ride through ferrymead, to marshlands road and then over the waimak bridge..... to my final destination... Blenheim... arriving in around 10pm. 400km tomorrow! Then 4 laps of Grape Ride Friday and 2 laps on Saturday! ONE THOUSAND KILOMETRES!
The VIP tent will be up at the start/finish line. please wander over and buy you VIP pass for the finish. I know you'll all be there...
To all of you racing or riding... GOOD LUCK! My thoughts will be with you and I am REALLY excited about seeing you up there.
I am nervous, worried, excited and most all hungry to not let you all down.
SEE YOU ON THE ROAD

3 days to go, my schedule, Le Race.... THANKS
Saturday was a gorgeous Christchurch day! Le Race was great! Jonny and I did it in a team... I rode the first half as a warm up... JP went really great on freshness. After the tag in Little River, I headed off for my first experience of the hill top summit! YUK... that is one hell of a ride. After a bit of food and rest I baked back to ChCh. My time was 7:27:41 to my front door. For those of you that donated to win a pair of $600 RUDY PROJECT eye wear... the winner will be called tomorrow!
Today, about 30 of us met at the MUDFISH cafe, for great coffee and a photo shoot for the GOLD Cholmondeley kit. Thanks to everyone that rode. We had a great ride out to Halswell then to Sumner. Fair to say, riding in a 20+ group doesn’t make friends with car drivers! (sorry cars)
3 days to go!
Here is a basic plan of my thousand kilometres! Thursday, is 400km then 6 laps of the GRAPE RIDE
Thursday: 5:00am-ish Start at Cholmondeley children’s home-Governors bay, ride to Blenheim, then ride another 60km (approx) to reach the 400km I need to get on day one. Should be finished 11pm
Friday: 5:00am Ride lap one of grape ride course. Approx 4 hours. Then ride another immediately after that. (My second lap today is the first of the 5 I must do for the 5 lap race.) Grape Gonzo has let me do one lap prior to the 2pm start of the ultimate 5 lapper. So at 2pm, I will be on the start line, with 4 laps to go. Then I will complete 2 more laps, finishing approx 10-11pm Friday night.
Saturday: 4:30am Ride lap 5 of my 6 laps. My goal is to be on my sixth and final lap approximately 9am, about the same time as the 1 lappers leave. The reason I wanted to do this is to finish around the 2-3pm mark. The fact is, if everything turns to custard, I might very well finish much later... as late as 6pm!
1000+ kilometres! DONE
For all of you wanting or waiting to donate to the kids of Cholmondeley...
www.fundraiseonline.co.nz/scottybrown
Lastly, MANY people have asked about the VIP tent... you can be part of the crew by simply paying $20 (or much more if you want) to the VIP volunteers at the tent (which is right on the start finish line in the GRAPE RIDE finish area!) For the first 70 people, you will receive an amazing VIP 1000km tee shirt. You will also get to drink COKE and VITAMIN WATER, eat our BBQ food from PAK N SAVE MOOREHOUSE AVE and drink a wine or two from the GREAT TEAM AT FORREST estate wines. All for $20 bucks! There will be seats there and great people hanging out with you! Every cent goes to the kids!
The TEES have been designed by the amazing team at DEFLUX DESIGN, this would have cost us hundreds of bucks, but DEFLUX did the design for free, LOVE YOU GUYS! and the tees were given to us by Mark and the bloody great team at SCREEN CONCEPTS. They are the best in the business... use them... plain and simple! Both of these companies have been sensational... THANK YOU SO SO MUCH!)
I am shaking with nerves!

NZ Prime Minister involved!!!!!!!!!!!
Not long to go before my pain starts!
This time 14 days away, I will be sleeping my 1000kms off! It's amazing to think that my mission is almost over. 29th of December 2008, was the day I rode 360kms from Waikawa bay to Christchurch... the day my training started and I started to make this a reality!
The support from you all has been tremendous to say the least. I'm often asked,"how can you do this"? But I say... how can all of you do this! It's my ride... but it's your money, time, donations, support etc that are making the actual difference. Don’t underestimate your effort... you are the ones that need to be thanked!
Mike Pero has donated some amazing hot laps in his Holden race car. He will do a bunch of hot laps with you in the passenger’s seat! Wow, this is freekin awesome! You can hardly put a price on that! These have been reaching $8-900 at charity auctions. He has donated 3! Yes 3. Mike, thanks so much! These, along with other amazing items, including a FULL domestique by your side in the grape ride in 2010, along with the use of race wheels, full support and free entry! A signed jersey by CSC TEAM rider Hayden Roulston, a signed jersey by Prime Minister John Key, and 2 other GREAT things, will be up for online auction on TRADE ME by Wednesday! I’ll post the link on Wednesday. Also we have had an amazing offer from DEFLUX design who have been doing all our design of logos etc for our VIP tees. Guys THANKS SO MUCH for your donation of design time! Also, Mark at SCREEN CONCEPTS has donated 75 tees for our VIP’s at the SCOTTY BROWN GUARDIAN ANGEL tent at GRAPE RIDE finish line. SCREEN CONCEPTS and DEFLUX have done all our printing and design for 10 years now... they are loyal to us and this cause! Support them!
Also, the team at MUDFISH cafe have also come to the party! When you're out riding make the effort to stop in and get your coffee fix from them. We all stop in sumner... but just down the road in Ferrymead you can get a great coffee fix from a cafe owned by fellow cyclists! More so, they are donating $1 from every coffee sold and have started a $2 “guess Scottys LERACE time” sweep stake. Up for graps is a pair of $600 RUDY PROJECT sunglasses. You can also enter the draw at SCOTTY BROWNS.. but stop in and have a coffee at MUDFISH. I did not solicit these guys, they came to me and said “WE WANT TO BE INVOLVED” and the least us cyclists can all do is give something back.
I would also really like to thank SCHWALBE tyres and REYNOLDS wheels. They have given me hundreds of dollars worth of tyres for my training and race... so thanks a million guys! They are the best tyres for New Zealand conditions, without question!
Lastly, John Key (Prime Minister of NZ) made a very significant donation this week. I’d just like to say that that was a real surprise and totally amazing! John, thank you SO much. I was lost for words to be frank! Cholmondeley Childrens home needs money every day. It's struggles to get funding and relies so much on the kindness of fellow New Zealanders making donations etc. So every donation is important, every persons dollar is important, but I would like to say this... when our Prime Minister gets involved, I can’t help thinking that the future is bright for the kids at Cholmondeley. I embarked on getting money and shoes... but just as important was getting this amazing home etched into people’s minds, to promote and make aware to Cantabrians that this is right on our doorstep! The words getting out! We can all take pride in the fact that each of us has done this. More people than ever will remember the name Cholmondeley and associate the name with need, help, kindness, compassion and care!
Ok, training: 3 days off cause of my back. short bays Wednesday, summit road Thursday, Saturday I did summit in morning and short bays in afternoon, and unfortunately the weather on Sunday really put me off, just rode up to kiwi... pretty sad training really!
This weekend I have LE RACE. I'm doing a team (but I am riding the first half as training-with my team mate) then racing the second half... then, i'll bike home. This will be my last big day before my epic 48 hours!
Love to you all!

Also, Mark at SCREEN CONCEPTS has donated 75 tees for our VIP’s at the SCOTTY BROWN GUARDIAN ANGEL tent at GRAPE RIDE finish line. ........shoes, schools, kilometres but no horses!
Pretty special week this week. I’ll try and keep it short!
Last week I was invited to OAKLANDS School. Where a wonderful teacher, Miss Ward (Lisa, fellow cycling legend) has invited me to visit her class and attend an assembly! Bit scary really, never did well at school... but I was very lucky to meet the GREAT kids of her class. Thanks kids! Was a little bit over the ENDLESS horse, talking horse and other horse related jokes... but I guess when I put I talk to horses on my blog, there was bound to be some ramifications! Anyway, I was presented with 580 pairs of kids shoes from a “mufti day” shoe donation from the school. I was blown away! Not much else can be said outside a warm and heartfelt “THANK YOU”! Thanks OAKLANDS School, Miss Lisa Ward and her AWESOME class! ..................................................580 SHOES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good training week... 2 REALLY hard hill rep days, one with Jess who really pushed me... Thanks Jess!
Saturday I did summit road in big gears... dumb move! I'm strong, but while doing this strength training I have inflamed my dodgy back... and I am now finding it really hard to move and sit on the bike. Advice given from Grant at INJURY SOLULTIONS is to have a few days rest, anti inflammatory tablets and keep moving!
Yesterday... well.......... yesterday my old mate Bob Scott (the original horse whisperer) and I set out for a mammoth ride. My first taste of an epic ride with someone else. I was really nervous because when you ride with someone else, over that distance, it can really be hard physically and mentally. You have to make sure that you don’t ride out of you comfort zone. We battled a NE wind all the way to Culverden, where we stopped for bacon and eggs. We then rode up the road 3km and turned east at the red post. Wow what an amazing piece of road that is. It brings you out just 16kms north of Cheviot! If you ever want a sensation ride, drive to Culverden and ride that piece of road... it's awesome. We then thankfully had a side tail wind home. 301kms for me and about 320k for Bob! Bob, thanks so much for helping me ride that distance. It was a great ride, not as epic as my Blenheim ride etc, but all the same and epic ride. It's a bloody long way; it was great to have you there half wheeling me! Haha
I will say this..... I am VERY worried about my ride! I have to do 2 back to back days of 400km then finish off with a 2ookm day on the Saturday! I am well aware of the effort that will be needed! Just for the record, I’ll do EVERY kilometre! My plan is to finish my ride around the 2pm mark on the Saturday... but weather conditions and legs will play a massive part.... so I might very well finish late Saturday night.... remember, the distance is the same as biking from ChCh to Blenheim, then back to ChCh, then back to Blenheim then back to Kaikora! That’s basically what 1000km is!
The donations are going crazy! THANK YOU! To the cyclists that donated at the Canterbury tour on the weekend, sincere thanks! It's tremendous feeling the compassion. To everyone that is donating, I can’t possibly thank you enough. To the people I have never met, I am overwhelmed and humbled by your generosity.
Remember, when you donate, the kids get the donation! Its YOU making the difference to them, NOT ME!
ciao for now, Scotty

.......................ONLY 4 WEEKS TO GO!!!!!
ONLY WEEKS TO GO!!!!!!
Saturday was a mint day for riding. In the morning Jess and I did kiwi-summit road, first thing before work. It was bloody gorgeous on the summit. After work, I headed out again, to the kiwi, then the summit, then did reverse short bays round to Rapaki where I met Yvette and the girls and U-turned then short bays home. A great day training.
Then on Sunday, Chris, Jess, Jonny, Namisha, Ginnie, Kev, Maryanne, Scott, Lynn, Donna, Jo and I did the Gorges! Apart from the HORRIBLE and endless NW wind that we all HATE down the old West coast road, it was a great ride! It's 18 years or so since I have done that ride. I was a real treat actually. Man, I actually had people to talk too! MINT! After the gorges, I rode back out to Sumner with the crew that live out there, then climbed evens and then did the summit road to Kiwi. I’ll be honest, I was pretty smashed. The day before hurt my pins, so climbing evens was pretty grim. Another great 195Kms under the belt.
Today, Monday..... ZERO! Day off and LOVED IT. The best massage I have EVER from Heather.... I mean it... call her and book! Make the effort, your legs will go better. Don’t procrastinate! Call them NOW! Thanks so much Heather! Bloody AMAZING! Ph 385 0544
Only 4 weeks to go! I can’t believe it!
Thanks to the following AMAZING people for their offline donations! It's fabulous, and wonderful!

SHORT BAYS, 5 times 218KMs
Welcome to another instalment! Been told by a few people that my blogs are a bit long.... sorry for that. I guess I am trying to capture the hurt and effort, therefore helping to open the wallets a bit wider! Anyway, thanks to you all for following. After last week’s efforts, I was lucky to have Friday off and did a great ride. Halswell-Sumner-summit road to Teddington, long bays-Sumner-Halswell-home 146km. Saturday I had off. Remember it was really crappy and wet?!!!!!!!!!
You might have heard me talk about (or a friend) that I asked the question “can the short bays be done 10times”? Well I can tell you..... Possibly, but that person will be the most mentally tough, fittest guy you’ll meet! I embarked on a 6 lapper! As you know, Sunday was looking like it was going to be wet. Turns out that not only was it fine, but the bloody NW wind was a GAIL! My first 3 laps were ok. I rode a lap with Simon Pease. Was riding ok, but of course getting passed by a few people.... as you can imagine, I had to think of the following laps, I didn’t want to “burn out”. After stopping for lunch with Yvette, I headed off from Sumner... but all hell had broken loose. The Nor West wind was insane! Riding up Dyers for the 4th time was hard enough without the bloody wind! There is a small advantage; I got a little help up the top of Dyers. My 4th lap was ok. Rode a little way with a few people who gave great encouragement. Then biking back to my fifth lap was hell... truth be told, the wind is what made the difference between the possible 6th lap and only doing 5. The wind took EVERYTHING I had saved out of me. Up Dyers for the 5th time was VERY VERY hard. I don’t climb well on a good day, and this was now a long bad day! Reaching the top was a huge mile stone. My legs were getting pins a needles and I was shaking from be so smashed. As I rode up Evans the last time, I was happy and just relieved. Biking through Sumner I got applause from Sam and Nat (remember the fruju people?)... They seem to follow me around everywhere! Biking through Redcliffs (I'm not to manly to say this) I actually got REALLY emotional, I'm not sure what bought it on, maybe the wind or just the thought of why am I doing this... but I started to cry. I couldn’t stop myself. I was just broken... weeks and weeks of crazy miles and just pure epic riding basically caught up with me... I was asking myself “can I even do this”? Hopefully, you realise this when you read this and think “PUSSY”... that you know I started training for this about 8 weeks ago and that this is a big effort for anyone that’s been a bike racer... let alone a guy that decided to do this a few months out! So yeah, 5 times round short bays, 218KM. The NW wind broke me and I simply got home and died. I was as beaten up as any 300km ride I have done.
Today I did 65KM rest (ish) day with 30 minutes of intervals. Jesus the pins were tender! Tonight got my Monday massage from Heather. Book her, she is amazing!
A few people to warmly thank for donations. (off line chq donations to add to the kitty)

BOOM!
Well after a few easy weeks I got back into it on Saturday.
It is really important to build strength and power as well as doing long miles to get used to the insane amount of time I’ll be in the saddle. So on Saturday I did short bays in the big chainring! I'm going to need that at about the 600km mark... the old legs need to be able to remember so I can battle through the hurt.
I was all prepared on Sunday to do 4 (or 5) laps of long bays. So I set my alarm for 4:30 got all my gear ready and hit the sack........ at half 4... I hit snooze..... DUMB MOVE! So after a mega effort to roll out of bed, I was on the road by 7:30. I had a pretty good first lap. The sun had come out and it was pretty mint. After a coffee and bagel in Sumner, back on the rig. In Tai Tapu... KA BOOOOOOM, my rear tyre blew! I was feeling tired and to be honest was getting cold chills and having huge pain in my left leg.. .the sort of pain I was getting at the 300k mark on my ride from Waikawa. Jonny P came to the rescue and dropped a wheel off to me. So an hour after my tyre blew, I was back on it. I rode most of the way in my big chain ring, knowing I was only going around twice today.....
THEN BOOM... not my tyre this time... the body! I blew big time. I was riding a huge gear from Sumner, into the damn NW wind... I was shaking and totally smashed! It would have been a hell of a sight. I stopped at a dairy in Woolston and got a diet coke and some twisties! 170km’s and I got home more smashed than my Waikawa ride..... It was horrible. It's funny that now when I do a 150km+ ride it feels like I’ve been a bit lazy!
Charles massaged me tonight and gave me ICE treatment... I feel like a million dollars! Probably the best massage I have had! You guys that need a massage... call and book... I assure you, you’ll be a new athlete. Here’s the number: 385 0544 My legs feel bloody amazing! Thanks Charles
Massive weekend this weekend... I know you’re dying to read about the universe of hurt I go through.... I hope to give lots of fun stories about my pain and suffering!
PLEASE KEEP DONATING AND TELLING EVERYONE.... AND REMEMBER.. DONT SAY “ILL DO IT SOON”... PLEASE DO IT NOW! BEG BEG BEG

Thankyou!
I keep saying it.... its from my heart... THANK YOU ALL!
Donations are rolling in. When you donate, you are donating money to REALLY help New Zealand! You are making such an amazing difference. Please understand that! I have no kids, but the impact the visit to Cholmondeley had on me will last forever! Your donation helps a child that might have such a horrible life. Just imagine, your good friend... getting so mad with his or her kid that they stub a cigarette out on the skin of their child, or hit them, or abuse them physically.... emotionally! If you were asked to give $100 to stop that kid from having to put up with that torture... would you do it? I know these kids are random to you, there is no emotional tie... but your help is helping us have to deal with what might be! So yes, every donation is wonderful, is wanted and most of all appreciated!
I am riding the distance of Auckland to Christchurch.... in a 48 hour time frame... so that the awareness of this haven is always in your mind! Donations are coming from the USA, Italy, Spain and New Zealand.
I am sitting here at 11:30 pm, just feeling such emotion! Thank you to all of you that have stepped up so far and to all of you that have sent emails and made phone calls to your group of freinds, telling of this cause and making sure they too are involved!
There are also lots of other amazing people that are donationg their time! Heather, is massaging me every Monday till the event to make sure my pins are in peak condition. So please support them in any way you can! If you need a massage, call Heather and make time to see her! Christchurch Therapeutic Massage Centre, 229 Hills Rd, ph 385 0544. I will tell you this.... after Mondays massage, I feel like a new man! If you want the best massage you could EVER have... I tell you... call them! Thank you Heather and Charles... your donation is awesome and a real TREAT!
See you on the road...
Good night... THANKS A MILLION !

My name is Mike, and I am the lucky guy who gets to work with the beautiful kids and fantastic staff, as GM of Cholmondeley Children's Home. What you are doing Scotty is absolutely unbelievable! Thank you so much! I often get people asking me how they can help with the work that we do, asking what it is that they can do to make a difference in the lives of kids who find life a bit tough through no fault of their own. But I've never had anyone offering to cycle a 1000kms for us before!Scotty you are amazing, a real inspiration to us all. Thank you so much for all that you are doing, and thank you to everyone who is getting behind this amazing guy. Please know that your assistance WILL make a difference. Our kids are not with us because they are naughty. They are with us because life has dealt them some rough cards, and it is up to us to help them get the best out of those cards they can. We have an amazing bunch of people to help us do that. If you want to know more, give me a shout on (0274)447320, and I'll tell you all about us!Thanks again Scotty - you rock!

Quiet week...
Well it's Monday morning.... and I know many of you look forward to reading an epic ride and story from me! Sorry to say, it was a quiet week. I literally didn’t get on my bike for 4 days. It was bliss. Then, 2 no sleep days crewing for Nicky and Emma on the COAST to COAST. It wasn’t horrible to crew, far from it, it was GREAT! But the crews have a heck of a job huh! Early starts and late nights. What an amazing event! Well done to all that finished and I'm sure there will be many crews making bets to each other to do it themselves next year! Competitors... WELL DONE!
Sunday I popped round the short bays. Man I feel SO fresh, although I pretty much suffered the whole way. I have always found that if I have to long off, I feel fresh but just have no power. So that’s the extent of the training. Over on the coast there were SO many people interested in this fundraising effort. It's very inspiring to hear people say the word “Cholmondeley” (chumley). While trying to raise $100,000 we are also trying to raise the profile of this wonderful home. It's working!
To all of you that have currently made a donation... THANK YOU! We have hit $10,000 so we are 10% there! Only 90k to go!
Today it's short bays summit a few times. Hoping for 3 or 4 times. Today is also my first massage from the amazing team at Christchurch Therapeutic Massage Centre. Heather and the team are going to take great care of me over the next month or so. They have so kindly donated their time to help me. Massages every Monday till the week of the ride! OMG, I can’t wait!
Have a great day! Please keep telling everyone you can! The kids need us... this is real!

You'll need five minutes.. it's a blimin novel!
Well what a weekend! The big call went out from me... (Me and my big mouth) that I was going to try and ride 1000k over the 4 days I had off!.... let me start with Friday! (You’ll need 5 minutes)
I left home at 6am. I said I’d never ride to Arthurs Pass again! I should have kept my promise. 41kms down the old west coast road and all hell broke loose! The Nor West! OMG, I have to say, that was the nastiest struggle I have ever had! Literally 180kms into a head wind, not a breeze... WIND! Yuk. It was F%&*in horrible. Up porters pass was even harder than last time, the hill is one thing but the wind was the icing on the cake! A car pulled to the side of the road about ½way up... it was Jeff Staniland and a car full of people (couldn’t see who else sorry)...You were bloody awesome guys! Calling “GO SCOTTY” out the window. How can I thank you guys? It's SO unbelievably inspiring for me... when I'm hurting and asking myself “why?” that people go out of their way to shout or wave some encouragement! Unbelievable! Thanks so much.... while on this subject... Mike Pero, Rachel and the kids also did this. 20k up the road, they stopped, filled up my drink bottle (More to come on that) and shouted “go Scotty” as they drove off past me! Just awesome! Thanks to all of you for the “help out on the road”
Ok, so when Mike gave me some water I said “that’ll do mate”.... dumb bloody move! 10k’s down the road I ran out of water.... my mind was doing flips, it was a dark moment. I knew I was 10k approx from Grassmere lodge.... but wasn’t sure if they were open or even served food! But I was dying, I turned off. It's about 1km from the road up to the lodge. I was riding at 8- 11kmph... yes 8- 11kmph. The wind was INSANE and it's up hill. Sounds crazy right? But as I was riding, I was almost ready to pull the pin! I got there, it was deserted! I thought, “I’ll find a tap and fill my bottles”... then a loan figure came to greet me. I said to her that I needed water and food... but, they don’t do “off the street meals”! But the girls were awesome! 6 chicks, ready to cook me a meal and let me drink all the water I could get. I was almost embarrassed, but I declined the meal offer, filled my bottles and they all waved me off. It was a really great moment. Another case of “great people in NZ”!
I finally got to Arthurs pass. I got 2 big fat sammys, a denheath custard square and a muffin. I was so hungry and just totally beaten mentally. I can handle wind, but I have to tell you, it broke me. I was so bloody sore, my legs and knees were just aching and I knew I had a fair way to go till I got to the coast. I went good after some food and crusied up the hill. To give you an idea of the wind (and going 90km down evens is no prob for me) I was going 47km down Otira! The wind was SO bloody strong. And I was riding deep 66 wheels, it was a hair raising descent! I finally got hold of Yvette (driving over to collect me) and told her I was near the Brunner turn off and that I would be near Kumara when she came through. I got to kumara. I finally got to the coast, 220kms later, my knees aching and totally ready to just give up cycling. Bob Scott did this ride the other week on a VERY windy NW day and said it was the worst ride he’d ever done. (Bob holds the cape Reinga to Bluff record!). I see what he meant. That was without question the worst ride I have done. I will NEVER ride to Arthurs again, I HATE it!
We then drove to Punakaiki. What a beautiful place. You HAVE to go there if you haven’t been. Take my word for it, stay at the Punakaiki resort and spend a few days riding your bike there. Thanks so much to the team at the Punakaiki Resort! They are amazing, the room was awesome and the restaurant there is to die for. Yes I loved it! The roads and the views are spectacular. But my knees were in a really bad state! They were so sore that I rode 40kms then had to get in the car. I hate being beaten and was gutted to feel this way. Of course I could keep riding, but then the fear is that I do damage to the point I can’t ride for a week or weeks. So the “sensible” part of my personality said “give it a rest Brown’! So we drove to Waikawa! This was the day that would have made the difference to the kilometre count. So about 160kms less than I wanted!
I decided that because of the easy Saturday ride I was going to ride back to ChCh on Sunday so that I could still have a big day on Monday back in ChCh. I could still get 800odd k’s in if I did this. So with an early night and alarm set for 5am, I was geared up for the ride home.
I ended up leaving at 6am. It was a crisp morning; wind blowing NE so at least the wind gods didn’t hate me today! I went to have a drink at the Blenheim Bridge........... FARK!!!! I forgot my bottles! A stop at the BP and 2 H2go bottles later I leave Blenheim bound for Kekerengu! (KK) I got to KK in good time. I ordered my bacon eggs, and coffee. I know, it seems a little “non athlete” but that food keeps me going! A guy came up to me and asked where I was going. His face dropped when I said ChCh. Then he said “have you just started”?... I said no, I have just ridden from Waikawa! His face dropped further! It was a great moment! He took his wallet out and handed me $10 towards the charity! What a great guy. I said for him to put it back and go on line (look out for his donation...will he do it?) he also does charity work and had a great fundraising idea, which we might use ourselves in upcoming weeks! But here’s a guy, that 5 minutes before didn’t know me and handed over some cash! What a bloody great spirit. I was buggered and forgot his name! Sorry pal... but thank you SO MUCH!
The ride to Kaikoura was mint. Traffic was really heavy but the sun was out and the roads were super fast. In Kaikoura I stopped and had a huge ham sandwich and caramel slice (non athlete food) from the fudge store there. That place rocks! On my way again, it was starting to get really hot! Aidan had told me the night before that it might get to 40 in ChCh, but I thought.... forecasts... pugh!
Well let me explain something.... it was VERY VERY VERY hot! 5km from the Hunderlees, I saw Sam and Nat. Great supporters of my ride for charity! I waved out, they had been swimming! Greta day for it! Again, “GO SCOTTY” is something that when I hear it, it just fires me up! So thanks so much guys!
As I started the climb a car pulls up side me, and a FRUJU was handed to me! OMG I LOVE YOU GUYS! So the start of my hill climb, it was probably 30 degrees and a pineapple fruju was melting all over my hand! I could see people staring at me as they went past... and I didn’t care! Sam, Nat, kids..... THANKS! I got to the top of the Hunderlees and it was boiling. My insides were cooking. 20Kms on and I was exhausted! I was getting close to running out of water and I knew Yvette was still a while back behind me in the car. 10km from Cheviot I was roasting. I was finding it hard to breath, sweat dripping off my nose and I officially ran out of water. I was dry and every turn of the pedals was hurting. When I saw the 8km to cheviot sign I was ready to stop. I had had enough. The NW was blowing from my right, it was SO hot and I was just throwing my toys. I was actually yelling out at the animals! So funny. I said to myself, think of something else....... talk to the animals! “HELLO HORSE, HELLO COWS, HELLO DEAD POSSUM, HELLO SHEEP ETC ETC” I must be insane!
I got to Cheviot and actually ran in to the shop and got a drink! The girls said it was about 40 degrees... and it was... I texted Yvette to see where she was. She was almost there. She got there and I drunk 2L of water in like 2 minutes. It actually felt like my insides were cooked. I'm serious! Her picture of the “39.5” shows it was just that! I sat in the car and gave in!

I decided to take a cheat, and get dropped off in Amberley. It was just way to hot and again I needed to be a little sensible about this. After all, it's only training! So from Amberely, Yvette motor paced me for 10kms. This freshens the legs for me, and I felt amazing. (Motor pacing is sitting behind the car and spinning the legs, 50kmph) I then decided (it was only 28deg now) that I’d bike to Sumner then home. I wanted to get to 300+. So I rode out to Sumner. I clicked over 300kms just before Ferrymead. Loved seeing that! It's was 318kms for the day! And what a day! Looking back, wow... it was really hard. The heat was insane, but this is all building character right? LOL
Today I should have ridden..... But ya know what... I couldn’t be bothered! Haha
Thanks for reading the novel! It's midnight, I better go to bed! Just over 600kms. Fridays ride killed me. My knees are still really sore. But this week will be another nice week to help recover before my next insane ride...... I’ll keep you posted on that one! To all of you donating money, donating shoes, donating time and most of all, caring... I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
If I had a choice I too would love to be enjoying a drink in the sun with my friends, or going to the movies.... but I'm in deep with this. It's the passion and drive that I have along with the thoughts and the compassion from you all that’s making this worth every personal sacrifice. Also, Yvette, you rock. Thanks for driving the car and giving up your personal time. It's hard, but you’re truly amazing! Xx
Have a great week... tell all your friends, and please DONATE!

Easy week training
Thankfully I had an easy week this week. You have NO idea how wonderful it was to be home by 1pm yesterday. I did long bays, then, while climbing up evens, had the company of legend (old man) Kevin Lawler, who led me back round to dyers and then up to to the summit. We rode across the summit back to Sumner then home. It was a gorgeous day in the end. Thanks for the company Kevin, loved it... we had a great ride mate! Then today I had another easy day, Halswell-Sumner! So only 200kms in 2 days, but I feel amazing... so a good sleep tonight then back into it tomorrow. If you were out riding on the weekend... you would agree.... that it is INSANE the amount of people on bikes. Coming from the days of only a "few" riders on the road... it just BLOWS MY MIND to see "my little sport" bursting at the seems!
This weekend I am doing the “Ride the Sth Island”... well most of the upper south. Hope to get 1000kms in in 4 days! Aidan has very kindly put his hand up to work for me on Saturday... so please drop a coffee into him and Jess on Saturday... they are stars and being so sensational in support etc. Thanks guys, love ya!
PAK N SAVE Moorhouse.... are amazing! My good mate Brad Spence found out about the ride and has kindly offered to supply ALL my food and hydration needs for the weeks leading up to the event! An absolutely tremendous and wonderful donation! So please support Brad and the team PAK N SAVE Moorhouse Ave! Brad, thanks doesn’t seem enough!
Mark Ingles, you also need a mention. PEAK FUEL is what keeps me going on the bike. Mark, I feel bad I haven’t said thanks enough! PEAK FUEL rocks mate, and your continued support, encouragement and huge heart inspire me and have done for many years!
Today I went to Cholmondeley again. I took my mate Pavlos from GOLDEN HOMES over. GOLDEN HOMES continues to support many charities, without the hooha. Pavlos is right behind this. Thanks for your time to go visit the kid’s today mate. I could see your mind at work while there and I am sure whatever you come up with will be a tremendous gift to the kids and staff.
I’ll sign off. But before I go, thanks to everyone for getting behind the “SHOE DRIVE”. There is true compassion right here in ChCh. So many people have put their hands up to help with this. There will be a “few” locations around the city you can drop the kids shoes off to for your convenience. But we need to rally to get as many shoes (ages 3-12). For now, you can drop these off at the shop (81 Manchester Street) but in a few days I will have “all” the locations. "Nats", your comment on the blog was gorgeous!
Have a great day, night and week!
Pray for the sun to shine again!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!see a grown man cry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tonight I visited Cholmondeley (chumley) children’s home. I took a night off training. Justine took me over and I met with Mike Field (Eric hunter was there too). Mike sat us down and began to explain in a nut shell, the care given and a little about the kids in general. There are about 20 kids that come and go from time to time (respite care) and about 7 kids that are there, that will NEVER go back home again. There are many different stories and I couldn’t help but feel for every kid there. One way or another each kid has a story that makes the Cholmondeley story even more tremendous. I won’t use names, but Mike gave us some examples of the kid’s stories, from single moms with 6 kids that simple need some time off, to the tear jerking story that gave me goose bumps.... imagine this (but it's bloody real) a 6 year old blonde hair, blue eyed girl. 6 (yes six) years old. Taken into care, she had cigarette burns all over her arms, legs and body. Possibly abused in many different ways. Mike said he would introduce us to her. He left the room and led in this gorgeous little girl. Shy at first, he said to her to remember our names and to show us around the children’s “HOME”. Mike was crouching down beside her, I almost burst into tears. This little girl, shy and adorable had been totally and utterly used and abused, in ways that you cannot simply imagine. I felt tears welling up in my eyes and I had goose bumps on my arms.
This is not a story, it's not a TV programme, not an article in the paper. It’s REAL. She was right there in front of me, breathing, real and I just felt like saying “F$%K that’s just so unfair”. So if you ask yourself, why is Scotty doing this, or can I afford it, or how would my money help, even if your just thinking, “I get around to it”... then just imagine her standing in front of you now! A real little girl, blond hair, blue eyes. Abused with burns on her body. What would you give to help her? There are hundreds of stories like this. The 3 cups of coffee you give up for this, (30 if you can) will literally change lives.
Mike showed us the “clothing room”. A room filled with donated kids clothes. Most kids who arrive only have the clothes on their backs. When the kids leave they leave with clothes from that room. They may even leave with a tooth brush (many kids have no idea how to brush their own teeth!!!!!!!!!!). The one thing missing there is shoes. The kids need shoes! So in the next few weeks we will be embarking on the biggest 3-12year old shoe donation NZ has ever seen. We will be asking “everyone” that has kids, or friends with kids to give up ANY unwanted shoes and to drop these off at a few locations around ChCh, or we will even go pick them up.
Yesterday, I was doing a ride for the kids at Cholmondeley, now I'm doing for the kids I MET a Cholmondeley! So I am riding a thousand K’s! Big deal, you would ride 2000kms if you had the chance to visit this home.
Mike, you and the staff are amazing. How you do it, I have no idea. Possibly an almost thankless job at times... but mate, do me the favour of thanking EVERYONE there for me. In the short time I was there I was deeply touched. No one I know, who took the time to visit you and the kids there, would feel any different than I do.
Kids, I promise I’ll do everything I can to make this work for you!

DONATE NOW! Please! And if you’re not touched, then I challenge you to come with me in 2 weeks, to see mike and the kid’s. That’s an official invite!

.........STINKY POSSUM!
Have you noticed (on the second climb from the bottom of dyers) that half way up there is a dead, dried out possum and it STINKS! I got a bit smarter today and remembered to hold my breath... someone move it! Ha Ha
Another bloody gorgeous summers day here in Christchurch! Went out today and did short bays, then across the summit, then did the bays again, 83kms of pretty slow, sore legged hills! Yuk. Despite being passed a few times, given the 323k yesterday, I think I did pretty good! Getting a pretty hefty tan line!
Have a great training week and make sure you tell all your friends about the donation site!

.......LONG BAYS .....4 TIMES?
Well it was a pretty good week of training. My training week starts on a Sunday, so from my ride to Blenheim till Saturday I did short bays a few times, halswell-sumner, summit road. Had a terrible ride Saturday morning across the summit, so was a bit worried about my big Sunday ride.
A few weeks back I was talking to Scotty Wilder. Scott is bit of a tough man when it comes to rides and he was telling me that he had ridden the long bays 4 times. This was about 8 weeks ago, about the same time I started training. I just thought he was insane, long bays 4 times. Now, most of us have ridden the long bays. It's an iconic ride and the long bays race is a legendary event on the cycling calendar. I said to him, last week “I'm going to do long bays 5 times”. He pretty much said it couldn’t be done! Don’t tell me it can’t be done pal!
I headed off at 5:30am. I had EVERY intention to ride until it was done. Along the way (before it got really hot) I had an amazing amount of people ride past and chat for a minute. Thanks to all of you for the kind words. This charity ride is making people feel like they can get behind something really special. At the end of the second lap I had lunch in Sumner with Yvette and hung out at COFFEE CULTURE. Ski was there of coarse filling my up with coffee for the next 3 laps. It was now noon and the heat was insane. The 3rd lap was really hard mentally. You’re riding along saying to yourself, why am I doing this again? I wanted to do this ride for JUST that reason. When you ride out of town, you have no choice but to get to the end. Riding close to home, you have to be mentally tough and tell yourself not to just turn off and go home! I was climbing ok and the legs weren’t hurting too much. The heat was insane. I felt like my insides were getting cooked. It was pretty lonely on the 3rd as there was no one out riding. I broke a spoke on my GOLD SHAMAL wheels. I waited on the side of the road for Aidan and Amanda to drop a wheel off to me! Thanks guys! Climbing up Evens Pass the 3rd time I felt really tired. Luckily the NE winds were helping my ride out to the Gebbies turn off. But on the 4th lap of my least favourite piece of road, it's fair to say I blew. I went up Gebbies pretty slow. The little hard hills around near Governers bay just took everything out of the pins. Riding up evens for the last time I simply said “that’s it” and decided to call it a day. I was totally broken, raw and sore and there was NOTHING left in the tank. Now, I could have kept going, I would have got to Gebbies again for sure, but I think I would have thrown my bike and given up cycling.
4 laps of long bays, 323km from door to door. That’s further than my ride to Blenheim last weekend. I can pretty much say that that is the hardest ride I have done. The hills just smash ya legs. I was so pissed off with myself. I wanted so bad to do 5 laps and get close to the 400k mark, but I guess the tank was so empty, I should be pleased.
Will go out tomorrow for a wee ride. It's fair to say the old butt is a bit sore, so the ride will depend on the butt, not the pins.
Have an amazing week. Thanks SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo much for all the support.
Keep donating and telling everyone. Dont let anyone miss out on the excitement brewing!

Training ride to Blenheim anyone?
Yep, wanted a big training day... what better than a training ride to Blenheim! I decided that I was going to pack my pockets, take a credit card and ride to Blenheim, if all went well stay the night and ride back Monday.
I left at 5:58 Sunday morning. It was crisp and cool. Just before I got to Greta valley, I saw a lonely figure coming the other way... it was the grand daddy of long rides, Shane Aitken. After a chat and best wishes he went Sth, I went north. After stopping in cheviot for a coffee, I continued onto Kaikoura. It was raining most of the way through the Hunderlees, although the sun would show through and the roads heated up so that I was riding through hot steam! It was awesome! Was climbing pretty well through there actually! When I got to Kaikoura, I was a bit smashed, as the wind was not being kind. It was 2pm. I could see really nasty weather in front of me, but when you’re by yourself, no support cars, just you, and ya credit card... well you just keep going right? It's fair to say the next 6 hours were hell. The wind started to blow really hard just minutes after Kaikoura. It was NW so I was riding right into the guts of it, then the clouds were rolling in. It rained SO bloody hard just out of Kekerengu you have no idea. I was riding with my hands in front of my face because the rain was killing me, I had to stop under a tree and wait for it to pass, then it did and the sun was intense! The weather was insane. The next 4 hours were some of the most crap I have ever experienced. The wind was SO strong I was basically riding at 15Kph for 4 hours. It was breaking me. I was talking to myself, was yelling at the wind out loud (you do these things at about 250k!) The sound of the wind in my ears got so intense, just that noise alone was cracking me! When I finally got to Blenheim I had decided to stay at Yvette’s parents. Kay picked me up and took me through to Waikawa bay. She had blankets to keep me warm and was just a darling! Thanks Kay. Xxx Steve lent me his shorts and a tee shirt. I literally only had the clothes on my back. The ride took about 2-3 hours longer than I thought it would take. I'm so bruised, so raw. It's hard to sit down. Mentally while on the bike I had to push myself so hard. So many times I thought F#@* this! But I wanted to get to Blenheim! My goal was to ride back Monday to ChCh, but I drove back (in steves clothes-see pic) and did short bays today.
So 309.65KMS from my door to Blenheim! 14 hours 30 minutes. I arrived in Blenheim to a breath taking sunset. First 6 hours were great, the last were hell. I mean it... I was broken. I was ready to cry for the last 3 hours and the last 6 were just horrible! But it's so character building!

People ask me often, “What do you think about”? Want me to tell you? Bob Scott told me “always say hello to horses”! That always sticks in my mind, so I always look for horses! Dumb! Yesterday I counted how many rental cars from my darling friend Nicki’s rental company (about NZ rentals/apex) went past. Nicki... there were 18! (...and one today up evens pass) I talk to myself about hurting and talk myself out of it. Yesterday a dog ran up a fence tine for about a Km so I was talking to it and trying to make it bark. Yesterday, I was trying to not think about how raw I was and how sore my knees were, so I would ride the white line and try not to look ahead and see how far I could go without looking up. Yesterday I thought about my mom too! Sometimes I dream about the finish of the ride and imagine how it will feel. I think about why the hay bales smell a certain way? I always find a ride over 150k makes my senses REALLY strong. I always think about mirrors of cars clipping me and knocking me off, it's really morbid huh? But I really do (that nasty head space of 250km). I definitely sing “OUT LOUD” and totally talk to myself “OUT LOUD”. I also wonder why when theres only me and 2 cars for miles, that they pass each other at the same time as they go past me. I spend hours wondering why this happens! Do you get what I mean? Yesterday I was also thinking about my mate Pavlos. Pavlos owns GOLDEN HOMES! He had texted me to say “hope your ok” and “I have some great news”. Pavlos has been working very hard with his loyal suppliers to get a package of prizes for the donators of the charity ride. Once we launch and tell you about this you will be blown away! It's times like this, that peoples true colours shine! Pavlos, you and the GOLDEN HOMES team are STARS! If you pull this off, the kids and I will be over the moon! So that was on my mind too!

Keep the donations rolling in! Wynn Williams and co! You absolute ROCK STARS! Matt Jones, you made that happen.... $2500!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Words can’t express mate!
Lastly, it's you guys reading this, it's the texts, phone calls, donations, emails, the toots, the waves that keep me going. I have to do this. I mean I WANT to do this, but after yesterday, want just isn’t enough. So your support and encouragement is the driving force behind this. I wish I could thank everyone individually. But know I appreciate it. I need you behind me on this ride for the kids!
Tell all your friends, infect the world by email and texts and have everyone you know donate. That’s the key! Donate!
Love Scotty

LOVE THAT part! Please take the time to take a look at it. www.fundraiseonline.co.nz/scottybrown
Hope the weather holds up this weekend, so I have some awesome rides to tell you about.
My new GOLD CARRERA will make its debut this weekend. Super record, Phibra with GOLD paint, gold campy wheels... it is TOTAL bike BLING!

MOMENTUM IS BUILDING! 1st donation...
This thing is now SO real. Wow, there is so much hype, so much enthusiasm for this charity ride! I am just over the moon to be honest! There is SO much going on, that I cannot simply write it all. Briefly, we have our fundraise website done and this will be launched tomorrow! We have most of the support sorted now and the email that went out last night to the GRAPE RIDERS has been overwhelming! Have had maybe 30 calls today from people that are just right behind this. Thankyou so much for the supportive calls, emails and texts, sincerely.
Today out of the blue an old mate and just absolute running legend Phil Costley popped in to the shop. He said that he had heard (Dean Ashby?) over a powerade (beer) that I was doing this bloody insane ride for Cholmondeley Children's home. He handed over a crisp $100 bill and said, "mate, you have always looked after me, so I'm right there with you". Phil, you NIKE sponsored absolute running GURU... you blew me away, and although I have had lots of people "dying" to hand over money, he actually did. Phil, you are officially the FIRST person to donate! SO... THANKS A MILLION, from me and from the kids. Phil, good luck in your next big event (BULLER) and take those NIKE shoes to a new record.
It's on baby! Bring it!
Ciao, Scotty
PS... surely NIKE will donate? (haha)

Training log-VIP GRAPES
Today I wanted to ride another hard ride on the back of yesterday. So I did long bays, then across the summit to kiwi then did the short bays after that! Can't say I'm climbing that well! grrrr
Anyway, I'll be riding halswell sumner for the next 3 days before and after work.. so if youre out.. give us a wee wave! Hill reps Friday (cry)
Thanks for checking up and remember, PLEASE TELL YOUR FRIENDS about my up coming charity ride. You'd be really suprised the people that are just "out of the blue" contacing me or talking to friends etc about this! The way we are going to raise $100,000 for the kids is by EVERYONE getting behind it.
Will post donation information this week too.
Lastly, Grape Gonzo from the Grape Ride is RIGHT behind this effort. He has sent me an AMAZING email this week, letting me know that we will have our own tent and VIP area at the Grape ride. A place that everyone who gets behing me will have a place to hang out.... I ASSURE you, this will be a place you will want to be seen in! DURAN DURAN have said they cannot make it, but we are working on other 80's pop legends! LOL

Punched for 6 hours by a heavy weight boxer!!
Decided last night to ride to the coast with Jonny! We left at 5:30am, got 35k down the old west coast road and poor old Jonny breaks a spoke (big bastard!) ............So keep going alone! What a crap ride I had! Decided to go to Arthurs Pass, thats a 155k ride. Man o man, got to the top of porters Pass riding about 5k an hour at top and I just never got "my legs"! It was just a 155k slog today. Got to Arthurs in just over 6 hours and Yvette collected me (trooper!) The only consolation was I saw Bob Scott riding the other way from the coast, stopped and chatted... at least I didnt ride 240k like him! Good on ya mate. Bit negative sorry... but man... feel like my legs were just punched for 6 hours by Mike Tyson! grrrrrr

little update
Thanks so much for dropping in! Well I just wanted to give you a training update and a donation update!
Training is going well, although this week is a rest week and the few rides I have been on have basically sucked. Legs are feeling DEAD! This could be because of the 900k week I did last week. While away on holiday I did some great rides, including the GRAPE RIDE coarse which is part of the 1000k charity ride in April. Then on the 29th I rode back from Waikawa. For those of you that dont know, Waikawa is just out of Picton at the top of the South Island.. it was 360kms. YES! 360km's. It took me 15hours-ish. I left at 5:30am on a crisp morning and got to Christchurch at 8pm that night. Fabulous weather. I got SO sun burnt! Had 2 or 3 VERY DARK moments of just mental hell, but riding round Kaikora with the seals barking, still blue sea, well... that was a highlight!
So yes, I am getting a little thinner. The plan is next week (12th) to do another 800-1000k week.
On the 24th December, I had a phone call from a woman who had heard of the charity ride through a friend! She said that it was a remarkable effort and that $100 simple wasn't enough to give for such an effort for the kids... she said her and her husband will give $1000! Although wanting to name anonymous, she said it was fine to tell of her generosity! This is the kind of feed back I am getting all the time. Steve Barry (and Michelle I'm sure) from Pro-Fitness is giving $1 per Km... another totally AMAZING gesture! Well Steve, I reckon you better get out a grand mate!
So remember this.... I was bloody numb after 360Km.... so an extra 600Kms is gunna hurt! Make it worth my while...... be part of this great adventure! Be part of this great cause.... feel amazing about yourself, that you have helped!
All the donation and gifting information will be available soon... I'll keep you posted!
Thanks for tuning in!

First blog for charity
Thanks a million for clicking in and following what is going o be one heck of an adventure. I wanted a place for you to come and check the progress of my training, the lead up, the supporters and who’s involved with the mega ride I'm doing for Cholmondeley children’s home.
As you well know, Cholmondeley children’s home is totally underfunded and only with the generous support of companies and individuals donating to the home, is it possible that the kids are well looked after. There a hundreds and hundreds of charities that are all well worth supporting. In choosing this cause, I wanted to support something local that makes a difference to many people in our “backyard”. But most of all, something you and I can continue supporting, long after I have ridden the 1000th kilometre! . This is such a great charity, we ARE going to make a difference!
I’m so happy and sincerely appreciative that you have made the effort to come see what I'm up to. I will post my training, information, news and pic’s as often as possible, so please keep checking up on me and ensure you tell as many people about this as possible. You’re a really special person for getting behind this... not only me, but the kids, are going to be just OVER THE MOON.
See you again soon!
